"Zooming out" helps to sense overall structure
When working on paper or index cards it is often useful to step back and see the big picture of how your ideas connect to one another. Computers have the potential to make this kind of interaction much more powerful since they can store data about the relationships between notes and ideas. Creating zoomable interfaces not only helps find connections but helps to give a sense of the overall structure or layout of something from afar.
